Disciples Who Follow
Reading:
Matthew 4:18-22 - As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. Devotional: In the first century, a disciple didn't simply agree with their teacher—they reorganized their entire life around them. They followed, imitated, and represented their teacher in every aspect of life. Jesus calls us to this same radical discipleship. Following Christ isn't about adding Him to your existing life; it's about restructuring everything around Him. The fishermen left their nets immediately. The disciples counted the cost and chose Jesus above all. What would it look like for you to truly reorganize your life around Jesus today? Where have you compartmentalized your faith instead of letting it permeate everything? Discipleship is all-inclusive. It touches your finances, relationships, career, entertainment, and daily rhythms. Are you merely a fan, or are you a follower?
