Coming to Your Senses
Reading: Luke 15:17-20 -- When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.
Devotional: There is a moment the text describes simply as coming to his senses. It arrives not in a sanctuary but in a pigpen. It is not glamorous. It is desperate and clear. God often uses uncomfortable circumstances not to punish us but to awaken us. The younger son's clarity came not from a sermon but from hunger. Whatever circumstance has pressed in on your life recently, consider that it may be the very thing God is using to cut through the noise and bring you back to what matters. Clarity is a gift, even when it arrives in an ugly package. Do not waste the moment.
