The Gospel as Announcement, Not Advice
Reading: Mark 1:14-15 - After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Devotional: The word translated as gospel in the New Testament carried weight in the Roman world. It was not a suggestion or a strategy. It was a public announcement that something decisive had already occurred. Jesus did not arrive offering tips for self-improvement. He arrived declaring that the kingdom of God was at hand, that something had been set in motion that no human effort could have initiated. This changes everything about how we receive his message. You are not being coached toward a better version of yourself. You are being invited into news that has already broken, news that is true whether you have heard it yet or not.
