Daily Devotional 8-12-26
I Am Who I Think You Think I Am
Reading: Psalm 139:1-18 --
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Devotional: The sermon raised a striking observation: we often become who we believe others perceive us to be. Our sense of self bends toward the voices that surround us, for better or for worse. But Psalm 139 presents a radically different foundation for identity. The psalmist describes a God who knows every movement, every thought, every unformed word before it reaches the tongue. This is not surveillance. It is intimacy. When God's perception of you becomes the loudest voice in the room, the opinions and projections of others begin to lose their grip. Whose voice is currently doing the most to shape how you see yourself?
