The Weight of Wanting
Reading:
James 4:1-3 - What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Devotional: James cuts straight to the heart of human conflict. At the root of nearly every argument, every frustration, every moment of tension is a simple reality: you want something you do not have. The gas pump that will not cooperate, the conversation that goes sideways, the plan that stalls — these surface irritations almost always point to something deeper. Before reacting today, pause and ask yourself what you are actually wanting beneath the frustration. Bring that honest want before God. He is not surprised by your desires. He simply wants to be the one you bring them to first.
