The Danger of Self-Centered Reasoning
Reading: Luke 9:46-48 - An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”
Devotional: The disciples had witnessed miracles, healings, and the feeding of thousands, yet in the middle of it all, an argument broke out over who among them was the greatest. Their reasoning had drifted from gratitude toward self-promotion. This is a pattern familiar to every human heart. When we lose sight of what God is doing around us, we tend to redirect the spotlight toward ourselves. Humility begins when we recognize that tendency and choose to resist it. Ask yourself today: where has self-centered reasoning crept into your thinking, and what would it look like to redirect your attention toward what God is doing?
