Clothing Yourself in Humility Toward Others
Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7 - All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Devotional: First Peter 5:5 uses the image of putting on humility the way you put on clothing each morning. It is a daily, intentional choice. The sermon reminded us that just because we are upset does not mean we are right, and just because we are upset does not mean we get our way. These are hard words, but they are freeing ones. When we clothe ourselves in humility before we enter a conversation, a room, or a conflict, we are no longer driven by the need to win. We are free to listen, to serve, and to reflect the character of Christ. Who in your life needs you to show up today wearing humility instead of defensiveness?
