Welcoming Others as an Act of Worship
Reading: Luke 9:47-48 - Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”
Devotional: Jesus placed a child in the center of the disciples' argument and said that welcoming that child was the same as welcoming him. This is one of the most disarming moments in the Gospels. The greatest is not the one commanding the most attention. The greatest is the one who sees and receives the overlooked. How we treat other people is a direct reflection of how we receive Jesus himself. The sermon celebrated a community where people feel seen. That kind of culture does not happen by accident. It is built by individuals who are thinking rightly about themselves and, because of that, are freed to genuinely see someone else. Who around you needs to feel seen today, and what would it cost you to make that happen?
