Buried and Raised
Reading: Romans 6:1-4 - What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Devotional: Paul makes clear that grace is never a license to continue in sin. The logic is simple and profound. If you have died to sin, you cannot keep living in it. Baptism is not merely a public declaration. According to Paul, it is a participation in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You go under the water as someone joined to his death. You come up as someone raised to new life by the same power that raised Christ from the grave. This is not routine. This is not something to check off a list. This is the moment your old life ends and your real life begins.
Personal Reflection: Do you live as someone who has been raised to new life, or do you still carry the weight of a life you have already buried? What does it mean practically to walk in resurrection power today?
