Devoted Together
Reading:
Acts 2:42-47 - They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Devotional: The first Christians did not receive new life and then go home to live it alone. They devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. They kept meeting together. They shared what they had. And the result was that people continued to be added to their number. Community is not optional in the life of a follower of Jesus. It is the design. God does not bring people into new life and then leave them isolated. He places them in a body, surrounds them with others who are on the same journey, and uses the relationships formed there to shape and sustain their faith. Church is not a building you attend. It is a people you belong to.

Personal Reflection: Are you genuinely devoted to the community of believers around you, or are you observing from a distance? What is one step you could take to move from attending to belonging?
