Daily Devotional 10-8-26
The Reliability of What Has Been Written
Reading: John 20:30-31 - Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Devotional: John was intentional. He did not write everything he could have written. He selected specific moments — encounters, miracles, conversations — and he recorded them with one purpose: so that you could believe. The historical reliability of the New Testament stands apart from every other ancient document in existence. You are not being asked to leap into the dark. You are being invited to step into the most well-attested account of a human life ever recorded. The evidence was assembled for you. The question is not whether the record is trustworthy. The question is what you will do with it.
Reflection: Have you ever seriously examined the historical basis for your faith, or have you simply inherited it or dismissed it?
