Fellowship Rooted in Something Greater
Reading:
Philippians 2:1-4 - Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Devotional: The Greek word koinonia, often translated as fellowship or participation, points to something deeper than shared space or shared preferences. It points to a shared foundation -- the gospel itself. This is why a church for everyone is possible. People who look different, think differently, and celebrate differently can be genuinely unified when Christ is the basis of their togetherness. True Christian community is not a country club or a popularity contest. It is a gathering of people who are all being reshaped by the same gospel. Today, reflect on whether your sense of belonging in your church is rooted in Christ or in comfort.
