His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Devotional: The Jewish believers had everything—covenants, laws, circumcision, rich history. Yet none of that "stuff" automatically made anyone part of God's family. Christ Himself is our peace, breaking down every wall and creating one new family. You cannot collect your way into belonging. Church attendance, Bible knowledge, Christian merchandise, even good deeds—none of these make you a Christian. What matters is being "in Christ Jesus." Have you been trying to earn your place through religious activity? Stop collecting and start belonging. The gospel isn't about accumulating spiritual credentials; it's about a transformative relationship with Jesus that reorganizes your entire life. You're brought near by His blood alone, not by your resume.

Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

Devotional: The disciples didn't choose the label "Christian" for themselves—others saw Christ so clearly in them that the name became unavoidable. Before Christianity was a religion, it was a reputation. Consider this: Is your devotion to Jesus so evident that others would naturally associate you with Him? We live in a world where "Christian" has become diluted—a political label, cultural identity, or family tradition. But in Antioch, it meant something radical: these people belonged completely to Jesus. Today, ask yourself: Would those around me know I'm a follower of Christ without me telling them? Let your life be the evidence of your devotion, not just your words or your collection of spiritual activities.

Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Devotional: Branches don't strain to produce fruit—they simply remain connected to the vine. Fruit is the natural result of abiding. The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control—manifests when Christ's life flows through us. This isn't about trying harder but staying connected. When you remain in Christ, your life naturally produces what the world desperately needs. People will know you're His disciple by your fruit, not your religious performance. Amy found a home where judgment fell at the cross instead of on her shoulders—that's fruit. The men's group gathering around a bonfire encouraging one another—that's fruit. What fruit is God producing in your life right now? How can you create space for more of His life to flow through you? Remain in Him today, and watch what grows.

When facing difficulty, remain means stay—don't abandon your post. When awaiting God's promises, remain means wait—"be still and know that I am God." When navigating life's valleys, remain means continue—keep moving forward in faith. The enemy wants you isolated and disconnected, convincing you that you've failed again or don't belong. But remaining isn't about perfection; it's about connection. Like the wrong turn to CVS—you simply pump the brakes, adjust direction, and continue. No condemnation. No shame. Just course correction. Where are you tempted to quit today? What promise are you waiting for? What valley are you walking through? In each situation, the call is the same: remain in Him. His strength sustains you when yours fails.

Pruning feels painful—it's the removal of something that's alive but unproductive. Perhaps it's a relationship, habit, ambition, or comfort that consumes energy without producing spiritual fruit. The question isn't whether something is good, but whether it's good for where you're going. God's pruning isn't punishment; it's purposeful cultivation. He sees potential you cannot yet see. When you sense God removing something from your life, don't resist—trust the Gardener's wisdom. He knows exactly what needs cutting to increase your fruitfulness. What is still alive in your life but producing no fruit? Surrender it to the Gardener today and trust His loving hands.

We are designed for community, not isolation. When Amy shared her journey from feeling judged in churches to finding home at Madison Hills, she discovered what God intended: a family where we belong, grow, and bear fruit together. The early church understood this, meeting daily and sharing life authentically. Isolation makes us vulnerable to discouragement and deception. Who are your fellow branches? Are you regularly gathering with other believers who encourage your faith? Consider joining a small group, Bible study, or serving team. When we connect with each other while remaining in Christ, we multiply our fruitfulness. Welcome someone new today. Share a meal. Laugh together. This is kingdom work.

You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. Just as branches cannot produce fruit apart from the vine, we cannot bear spiritual fruit disconnected from Christ. The Israelites failed when they made faith about themselves rather than God. Today, examine your connection to Jesus. Are you drawing daily nourishment from Him through prayer, Scripture, and worship? Notice Jesus says "remain" repeatedly—this isn't passive but active, intentional abiding. Like a branch naturally connected to a vine receives constant sustenance, staying connected to Christ transforms our lives from the inside out. What distractions are competing for your attention today? Identify one way to strengthen your connection to the Vine.

This is the ongoing work where God partners with you to transform you into Christ's likeness. But Jesus offers something different: revelation, not realization. The way, the truth, and the life aren't discovered within ourselves—they're revealed through Him. Yes, this path is narrow and exclusive, but it's also the only path that leads home to the Father. Jesus doesn't apologize for this exclusivity; He offers it as hope. Two roads diverge, and one leads to life. Taking the road less traveled—the way of Christ—makes all the difference. This isn't restrictive; it's redemptive. God has made a way where there was no way. He climbed down. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. While every religion constructs ladders for humanity to climb toward God, Christianity reveals a God who descended to us. He didn't wait for us to figure it out or work harder. He saw our helplessness and intervened. Jesus is God's initiative, God's solution, God's rescue mission. This is why the gospel is called "good news"—it announces what has been done for us, not what we must do. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified. “But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker. “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Devotional: Religion says "do" to be accepted. Christianity says you're accepted, therefore you "do." This distinction changes everything. Paul, a devout Jew who had followed the law meticulously, declared that no one is justified by works of the law. Our best efforts fall short. Our good deeds cannot bridge the gap. Only faith in Christ makes us right with God. This isn't a license for laziness—it's liberation for loving service. When you grasp that you're already accepted, obedience flows from gratitude rather than fear. You don't serve to earn His love; you serve because you've already received it. Let this truth transform how you approach your relationship with God today.

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Devotional: We often live as though we're on trial, desperately presenting evidence of our goodness to earn God's acceptance. But justification isn't about our performance—it's about His grace. Like a skilled defense attorney declaring "just because you did it doesn't mean you're guilty," Jesus stands before the Father on our behalf. The verdict is already in: righteous. Not because we've earned it, but because Christ paid our penalty. This one-time positional change happened the moment you believed. You cannot become "more saved" tomorrow than you are today. Rest in this: you are already fully accepted, completely forgiven, and eternally justified through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.
“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Devotional: "I am the resurrection and the life." Not "I will be" or "I was"—I AM. Jesus confronts Martha's theology with His reality. She believed in resurrection "at the last day," but Jesus was standing right in front of her, offering resurrection now. The question echoes to us: Do you believe this? Do you believe Jesus can resurrect what's dead in your life today? Not someday, not eventually, but now? You don't need perfect faith—just enough to take the next step. Whatever you see in that empty chair of your life—that relationship, that purpose, that hope—Jesus is asking if you believe He can resurrect it. Your answer doesn't have to be confident. It just has to be honest. Start there. Belief begins with a willing heart.

When Jesus raised Lazarus, He didn't command Lazarus to unwrap himself. He enlisted the community. This is profound: resurrection is personal, but recovery is communal. Whatever God is breathing new life into in your world, you'll need others to help you walk it out. The strips of linen that bound Lazarus represent the habits, mindsets, and patterns that keep us trapped even after God has freed us. You cannot remove these alone. This is why authentic Christian community matters—not just showing up on Sundays, but allowing people into your mess, your process, your transformation. Stop trying to do life alone. God designed you for connection. Reach out. Ask for help. Let others help unwrap the grave clothes so you can truly walk in freedom.

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Devotional: "If everyone in the world wrote down their problems and tossed them in a hat, would you risk picking one or keeping your own?" This question reframes everything. We're often so consumed by our own struggles that we lose perspective. Paul reminds us that our present sufferings aren't worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed. This doesn't minimize your pain—Jesus himself was "deeply moved" by suffering. But it does invite you to see your challenges through a different lens. What if your current difficulty is actually custom-designed for your growth? What if the very thing you want to escape is the pathway to the breakthrough you need? God wastes nothing. He's working all things—even the painful, confusing, frustrating things—together for your good and His glory. Keep your problems; God has a plan for them.

But Jesus revolutionizes this understanding: "Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and has crossed over from death to life." Present tense. Eternal life isn't just about quantity of days; it's about quality of existence. Right now, you can experience God's life infused into yours—His peace in your chaos, His hope in your despair, His purpose in your confusion. The resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to resurrect the dead places in your life today. These words can pierce our hearts when we're desperate for God's intervention. Like Mary and Martha, we've all experienced the confusion of unanswered prayers and divine delays. But here's the truth: delay is not denial, and silence is not absence. God's timing often defies our understanding because He sees the bigger picture we cannot. When you feel "left on read" by God, remember that He is mission-focused, working all things together for good. Your prayers haven't fallen on deaf ears. There's no comfortable middle ground. Many walked away from Jesus when His teaching became difficult, and He turned to the twelve and asked, "Will you leave too?" Peter's response echoes through centuries: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Today, Jesus asks you the same question. The Pharisees diligently studied Scripture yet missed Jesus standing right in front of them. They gathered information but experienced no transformation. God's Word isn't meant to be consumed like content on a streaming service—it's meant to shape you. Consider slowing down this week. Instead of rushing through chapters, sit with one verse. Let it simmer. Ask God to speak. The goal isn't finishing your reading plan; it's encountering the Living Word. Quality over quantity. One sentence that transforms you is worth more than ten chapters that leave you unchanged. Today, pick one verse and meditate on it throughout your day. Write it down. Pray through it. Let God's Word dwell richly within you.

No one comes to the Father except through me."

Devotional: Jesus' claim to be "the gate" isn't popular in our inclusive culture, but it's profoundly comforting. A gate provides both access and protection. Multiple gates would mean multiple threats, but one gate means one Shepherd standing watch over your soul. This exclusivity isn't about God being narrow-minded; it's about Him being trustworthy. You don't need to wonder which path leads to life—Jesus is that path. The thief comes to steal and destroy, but Jesus came that you might have abundant life. What false gates are you tempted to enter through—success, relationships, achievement? Today, recommit to entering through the one Gate who laid down His life for you. Security isn't found in having many options but in having the right one.

When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

Devotional: Jesus doesn't call His sheep as a collective mass—He calls each by name. In a world where we often feel like just another number, the Good Shepherd knows you intimately. He recognizes your unique voice, your struggles, your dreams. The shepherd in Jesus' day would spend countless hours with his flock, learning each sheep's personality and quirks. Similarly, God has invested eternity in knowing you. Today, pause and consider: Am I listening for His voice calling my name? The sheep didn't follow just any voice—they knew their shepherd's tone, cadence, and character. Spend time in His Word today, not to check off a religious obligation, but to become familiar with the voice that calls you beloved.

Not a place of judgment for those stumbling in shadows, but a beacon declaring: "Welcome. You are invited. You are loved. We've been waiting for you." This is the heart of Jesus reflected through His body.
When we gather as believers, we gather around the Light of the World. In doing so, we absorb His radiance and carry it into our communities, workplaces, and homes. We become living reflections of His love, hope, safety, and forgiveness.

But this only happens when we stay connected to the source. A lamp unplugged produces no light. A mirror turned away reflects nothing. We must continually position ourselves before Jesus, allowing His light to fill us and shine through us.

Today, ask yourself: Am I reflecting the light of Jesus to those around me? Are my words, actions, and attitudes drawing people toward Him or pushing them further into darkness? Pray for one specific person in your life who needs to encounter the light of Christ—and ask God to shine through you into their darkness.

We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

John 16:33 - “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! Yet in the center of the chaos sits an illuminated figure: Jesus, the light within the darkness.

You will face dark storms. Jesus promised this: "In this world you will have trouble." But He immediately followed with hope: "But take heart! I have overcome the world." The question isn't whether darkness will come, but where we'll look when it does.

Often we respond like the disciples—trying to fix everything ourselves, overcome by fear, attempting to steer through the chaos. Meanwhile, the Light of the World sits in the boat with us, waiting for us to turn our attention to Him.

What storm are you navigating right now? Instead of closing your eyes and hoping nothing bad happens, open them and look for Jesus. He's there, illuminated in your darkness, offering not just survival but peace in the midst of the storm.

A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 5:8-14 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Devotional: Jesus not only claimed to be the light of the world—He called His followers to be light as well. "You are the light of the world," He declared. This means light isn't just something we receive; it's something we reflect and become.

Every day presents a choice: will we turn toward the light or settle into darkness? Fear leads to anger, anger to hate, hate to suffering. But faith leads to hope, hope to love, love to abundant life. The path we choose determines not just our destination but our daily experience.

Being light doesn't mean we've conquered all darkness within us. It means we've made the choice to follow Jesus despite the darkness that remains. We cry out, "I believe; help my unbelief!" and take the next step toward Him.

Consider: What small choice can you make today to turn toward the light? Perhaps it's choosing honesty over hiding, forgiveness over resentment, or vulnerability over self-protection. Choose light.
