What happens when someone walks into a room where they clearly do not belong -- at least according to everyone watching? That is the question at the heart of Luke 7, where a woman known throughout the community steps uninvited into a dinner party and begins washing Jesus's feet with her tears. The room grows tense. The host, a Pharisee named Simon, quietly concludes that if Jesus truly were who he claimed to be, he would know what kind of woman this is and keep his distance. But Jesus does the opposite.
